Executive Board
President:John Chapman John Taylor Chapman is a fourth generation Alexandria resident and a life-long Democrat. After a four-year stint in Minnesota, attending Saint Olaf College, he is back in his hometown, working hard to stay busy all over the city. He was prompted to get involved in Democratic activities after seeing his College Democrats struggle to meet organizational goals in his conservative Minnesota school. Besides being the President of the Alexandria Young Democrats, he is also the Chair of the Minority Issues Caucus for the Virginia Young Democrats, a commissioner on the Alexandria Commission on HIV/AIDS, a member of the Alexandria Public School Board Budget Advisory Committee, a board member of the St. Stephen’s and St. Agnes Alumni Association and member of various city organizations including Alexandria Democratic Committee, Northern Virginia Urban League Young Professionals, NAACP-Alexandria Chapter, and a lacrosse coach for Alexandria Lacrosse Club. He was apart of Gaines Campaign Team, which worked to get City Councilman Ludwig Gaines re-elected in May 2006. When he is not involved in these activities, he can be found at his day job as an After School Specialist for Fairfax County Public Schools.
Vice President:Jacinta Greene Jacinta Greene a native of Richmond, VA and a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University, has lived in Alexandria for the past five years. While living and going to school in Richmond Jacinta was very involved with local politics and worked on numerous campaigns. She considers politics a family business and therefore supports and enjoys working for her cousin Donald McEachin's campaigns and campaign efforts. She is now empowered by her love for the City of Alexandria to continue the fight to make Alexandria better place for all citizens. Jacinta looks forward to representing the Alexandria Young Democrats and being their voice for positive change in our beloved city.
Treasurer:Adam Osterman Adam was born and raised in the Washington DC Metro Area. He went to Longwood College and graduated with a BSBA with a concentration in Accounting. Adam currently works at EPA as an Accountant. He is on the Financial Integrity Team which makes sure EPA is following its internal controls. Besides being the Treasurer of the Alexandria Young Democrats, he also serves as the City-County Chair for the Virginia Young Democrats.
Politcal Director:Kevin Bailey Kevin J. Bailey, a native of Jacksonville, NC joined the Alexandria Young Democrats in 2007. After moving to the area, Kevin sought to get more involved in the local community and the broader initiatives of the Democratic Party and found AYDto be a perfect place for such activity. Kevin is currently employed with the federal government and has several interests which include issues facing minority communities, the environment and education. Kevin is a proud graduate of North Carolina Central University and is an active member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
Membership Director:Ariel Gonzalez Ariel was originally born in New York City, moved to Prince William County in 1987, and he became a resident of Alexandria in 2003. Ariel served as a Board Member of the Prince William County Democratic Committee and was President of the Prince William County Young Democrats in 2001 and 2002. He attended James Madison University and received a Bachelors of Science in Psychology. After working full-time and receiving his Master of Arts in Legislative Affairs from The George Washington University, Ariel continued to work full-time in government relations and attended evening law school. He received his Juris Doctorate from the Catholic University Columbus School of Law and is a licensed member of the Virginia Bar. Currently, Ariel is the Membership Director of the Alexandria Young Democrats. He volunteered on various Virginia campaigns, and he served as a volunteer attorney for the Virginia Democratic Party in the 2007 state elections. In his spare time, he volunteers coaching Alexandria teenagers in basketball at a local recreation league.
Immediate Past President: Jon Kelley
Jon is originally from Boston but has found his new home in Northern Virginia after graduating from Bates College. An active democrat in college, he was campus representative for Wesley Clark and was a delegate for General Clark in the 2004 Maine Democratic Caucus. He is a lifelong democrat and is proud to contribute to the future direction of the Democratic Party. Professionally Jon works for a financial consulting firm.
